Switching to Equipsme – important things you need to know

Switching to Equipsme important things you need to know

If your employer has chosen Equipsme as part of your health benefits package, the Equipsme health plan can help you and your family get practical health benefits and access to private health cover.

Who are Equipsme?

Equipsme launched in 2018 with a mission to make business health insurance simple, practical and great value for money.

Today we help businesses of all sizes take care of their people, cover more of their workforce and employees take care of their health – and their families.

Why Equipsme?

Your company may have decided to reset their health benefits - and move employees to Equipsme from a different health insurance supplier.

This means you will now have different benefits, which come with different terms and conditions.

The good news is it means your company can still offer you benefits that are designed to provide you with a health back-up when you need it.

Equipsme is also unique in the market because it allows you to pay in extra yourself to upgrade your plan over and above the level that you company has bought you - and get the level of cover you believe is right for you.

You can also pay separately to add your spouse/partner and children, giving you extra peace of mind that everyone is taken care of.

What do I need to be aware of?

Your plan will not be the same as any previous plan, so it’s really important to understand your benefits, so you can make the most of them.

Here are four key points to consider:

1. What benefits do I have now?

Your company has selected either plan level 1, 2, 3 or 4.

Level 1 includes hospital treatment and specialist diagnosis benefits with no excess to pay.

Level 2 is the most popular plan and includes hospital treatment and specialist diagnosis benefits with a £150 excess to pay once per year.

Level 3 includes access to a private specialist and private test and scans. Quick diagnosis is key to getting treatment faster and creating peace of mind during a time of worry

Level 4 includes access to our 24/7 GP, 24/7 nurse helpline, and physio support.

Physio, diagnosis and treatment are accessed through AXA Health’s network of private specialists and hospitals, so you know you’re in safe hands.

All our plans include the following extra support and value:

  • Private GP 24/7
  • Physio support and F2F sessions (number of sessions dependant up on plan level)
  • Nurse helpline 24/7
  • Cancer & Heart support
  • Annual home health check
  • Elder care support
  • Gym, health check and optical discount
  • You can upgrade benefits
  • You can add family

2. What benefits can I get for my family?

Adding your partner costs the same as your own plan costs.  Adding children costs just half of whatever your plan cost. What’s more – it’s half the cost for ALL children you add to your plan, not per child.

3. What about pre-existing conditions?

When you join Equipsme we don’t want you to have to fill out lengthy questionnaires about your detailed medical history. Instead, we exclude from physio, diagnosis and treatment cover for any pre‑existing conditions that you’ve had in the three years before your cover starts.

That means if you’ve had any disease, illness or injury, or any other symptoms for which you’ve received medication, advice or treatment for in the three years before the start of the Equipsme plan – you are NOT covered for these under your new plan.

This would also include any claims that you have had or are currently in the middle of with your current health insurance provider.

Find out more about pre-existing conditions here.

4. What other exclusions do you apply?

Your Equipsme plan also doesn’t cover cancer treatment. In order to help keep claim costs sustainable, we help our members get early medical attention and swift diagnosis, and support them to move forward with the NHS for their treatment.

Find out more about Equipsme and cancer care here.

Psychiatric in-patient care is also excluded from Equipsme cover along with some standard industry insurance exclusions.

You can find more information on our exclusions here.

There are benefits which you can use from day one which would cover existing health conditions. These are the GP services, nurse helplines and the health check, as well as stress support and dental and optical benefits (if chosen by the business for their employees).
